St. John’s Teacher embraces New Technology
St. Paul’s Junior High social studies teacher Kellie Rodgers uses the Smart Board every day in her class. As stated on Smart Board’s website “SMART’s award-winning products transform learning by helping teachers bring more collaboration and interactivity into the classroom. Teachers can quickly incorporate them into their teaching to transform learning and increase student engagement.”Kellie Rodgers agrees. And one unique way she is using this board is to bring the Telegram’s Smart Edition into her classroom.
The Telegram’s Smart Edition is the electronic version of the entire paper.
Unlike www.thetelegram.com which is primarily focused on breaking news the Smart Edition allows readers to get the entire paper delivered electronically on devices such as an iPad, iPhone, laptop or desktop. In Rodger’s case the Smart Board allows her to display every single page of the paper for that day on a white board in front of her class. St. Paul’s school is part of the Newspaper in Education program and has been using the Telegram in social studies curriculum for some years but now Rodgers has a way to keep these tech savy teenagers even more engaged. For French classes the Telegram Smart edition has the ability to read to the class in English or French.
The classroom has come a long way from the days of chalk on a blackboard and in cooperation with companies like The Telegram students are involved like never before.
